ICT Jobs in Nigeria, How Best Can We Find Them?
ICT has remained so promising that it's often seen as a mega sector to work in. Nigeria also, on the other hand has developed so much interest in it that Universities,Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and ICT learning centers plus professional courses are being funded and introduced into the system. The fact that follows after acquiring a certificate in an ICT related course would be to find a job that will make the whole process balance. If you will agree with me there are so many job sites and recruitment agencies out there on the internet, but only few of them have the resources to constantly post ICT jobs on their sites.
It would be argued if one says that there are no jobs in the ICT sector, there are so many of them springing up day by day, but the problem remains: How to get access to them. So many factors may contribute to this of which politics and Godfatherism are the major ones.
This post however, is not meant to critize these short-comings but to suggest ways or where in Nigeria people that have certificates in ICT related deciplines can run to for job updates.
The sites I have listed in this post are not in anyway affiliated with NaijaTechBlog, I only picked them on recommendation and suggestion made by young and old Nigerians who have one way or the other experienced their activities.
After a long talk, interviews and opinions sorted from people (both professionals and non-professionals) I was able to come up with a list of some Nigerian websites where ICT jobs can periodically be posted and also how best to find ICT jobs in Nigeria.
Nairaland: I did an SEO check on Nairaland sometime early this year and discovered that it has the greatest traffic and posts on ICT jobs ever. While Nairaland is not an employment site, it is for sure the largest forum in Nigeria and its ICT job board runs fresh all the time.
Jobberman: This is another 24 hours Nigerian job posting site. At Jobberman, there are wide range of job categories of which ICT is one of the major job categories ever listed. Though some folks claim that it has fewer ICT jobs, I think it has more than what they can see!
NaijaHotJobs: NaijaHotJobs is one of the oldest Nigerian job sites. Sometime this year, they rebranded the site layout to provide users an easier site navigation. ICT jobs section is also updated as they unfold. One good thing about these sites is that they are forums filled with people who help them to source jobs as they are released.
Nigerian Newspaper Online Websites: When you visit most Nigerian sites you will notice that they have the "Technology" category on their menubar. Take some time to go through them, I have a friend who got a job with MTN Nigeria following an advert placed on one of the Nigerian Newspaper online websites.Tip: You can google Nigerian websites to start checking for ICT jobs posted in the Technology category.
Direct Visit to Company Website: If you have interest in a particular ICT firm, a better way to stay updated on their job opening is registering with the career unit. If possible subscribe to their RSS feeds if they have one. Apart from subscribing to their feeds, the best would be to frequent their Career page for news posted on available job openings.
